Inspection
Inspector Field Service
Representative Opportunities
A Fantastic Home-Based Business
most Frequently Asked Question

I receive great questions from those wanting training on becoming a Field Service Inspector Representative.

The most popular and frequent question is;

"..What is realistic, in turns of volume though. On average how many inspections does the average inspector do an hour, day, etc..."

My reply and comment to this FAQ is as follows:

Your area could be saturated; however, competition has never been a detriment to any type involvement in job hunting or self employment.

The objective is to send your resumes to companies; and continue to do so until you obtain assignments; and you begin to work for enough companies whereby you can earn a high and quality income.

Please Review the below scenario:

You most probably, under normal circumstances, should never accept any assignment that earns you less than $20 to $25.

It is always your decision based upon the amount of the work the company offers you.

If you would like to discount your services for larger amounts of assignments, you may.

There are many different scenarios to the above statement as the work and type business of the Field Service Inspection Rep varies with assignments in periods of week, day or month.

The only way I can provide further understanding to you is to offer one Rep's PART-TIME ASSIGNMENTS example:

Note: Expenses and Reimbursements not included in amounts for this example.

Week one:

Accepts assignments from 3 different companies;
1 on Monday ................... $20 (Company A)
2 on Thursday ................ $60 (Company B)
2 on Saturday................. $75 (Company C)
Total earned $155

Week two:

Accepts assignments from 3 different companies;
3 on Tuesday ................... $75 (Company A)
3 on Thursday ................ $80 (Company D)
2 on Saturday................. $75 (Company E)
Total earned $230

Week three:

Accepts assignments from 4 different companies;
4 on Monday ................... $120 (Company B)
3 on Tuesday .................. $ 60 (Company C)
2 on Thursday ................ $ 60 (Company F)
2 on Saturday................. $ 75 (Company G)
Total earned $315

Week four:

Accepts assignments from 3 different companies;
3 on Monday ................... $75 (Company D)
2 on Thursday ................ $60 (Company E)
4 on Friday .................... $175 (Company F)
Total earned $310

1) In the example above you are accepting assignments from 7 different companies.
(Note: you should try to accept assignments from 7 to 10 different companies to maintain work flow).

2) They are for different types of inspections.

3) Some inspections reimburse you specified amounts for photos, mileage and other related expenses.
(Note: all specs are documented prior to accepting any assignments).

4) Home business expenses are not to be a part of your assignment reimbursements.
(Note: the cost of being in your own business is not included as "assignment expense" it is "business expense".
You should contact an accountant or CPA for further definition and understanding on the differences.
Additionally, it is very helpful to use an accounting software application such as Quicken or others.

......................................................
More important TIPS;

Another important factor is that reliability and responsibility are the key to obtaining assignments.
Even in saturated areas, the difficulty is finding quality people to complete assignments for the companies.
Mortgage, loan, bank companies and more are always searching for responsible inspections reps.
......................................................
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
1- You should never place your self into any position that is not safe.

2- You are simply to follow the instructions of the company that requests inspection information on their property.

3- Even when on an interview assignment type, you should never discuss any (other than specified by the company) information with an individual.

4- A company on many occasions will only request you to advise them if the property is vacant or someone is living in the residence (if applicable); or report on the specified assignment criteria.

5- There are other type CONTACT ASSIGNMENTS which may request communication with the home owner to make contact with their mortgage company while you are at the residence or business.
Note: If there is reason to make an appointment in the examples of home improvements, loans, business audits and more; and you will enter the property or make on-site contact with the property owner; you will have to discuss such issues with the company for whom you are to complete the inspection.

In all of my years of many different type inspections, I never experienced any problems or difficulties.

Would it inspecting unsafe areas make you more valuable?

My reply and comment to this FAQ is as follows:

I suggest you value your safety more than you should being valuable in unsafe or hazardous conditions.

The Field Inspections Industry is one where you are working with professional conditions. You are not expected to act as a collector in any circumstance unless requested for this type assignment and or interview.

A collector or investigator are positions much different than a Field Inspector.

If you wish to pursue investigative type assignments, you could research more on that type of position and or self employment.

Kindest Regards, B. Robert
